On the agenda for Special Needs United
- Occupational therapy evaluations for families who do not have the financial means to have their child evaluated. Britt and our team of OTs will provide a comprehensive evaluation that the family may use in the school system for an I.E.P., with a government regional center, or in an outpatient therapy setting.
- Give families guidance on where to receive occupational therapy services from the government and school systems. It can be overwhelming navigating through this system and it helps to have experience and support.
- Provide free occupational therapy DVDs to parents of children with special needs who speak Spanish, or do not have access to occupational therapy resources.
- Donate educational and therapeutic toys to families.
- Britt and our team of occupational therapists will be available to speak at schools, community centers, conferences, and other non-profit organizations to educate parents on the benefits of occupational therapy for children with special needs.
- Provide public resources, such as websites and handouts, with occupational therapy tips and activities for families of children with special needs to incorporate into their daily lives.
- Host a monthly radio program on Autism One Radio with Britt Collins, M.S. OTR/L and Jackie Olson, founder of Special Needs United. Britt and Jackie will go over everything occupational therapy has to offer children with autism and how parents can incorporate sensory activities into their child's day. They will also cover the benefits of combining OT with yoga, applied behavior analysis, and other forms of treatment such as aquatic therapy. Guests will include Dr. Angela Hissong, OTR/L, CAPS, Jamie Bergstein, OTR/L, yoga instructor Aras Baskauskas, and others.
- Research occupational therapy results to develop and produce better products to help children with special needs overcome obstacles and increase their quality of life.
